Tamworth Spartans are committed to giving young people aged 10-16 the chance to play volleyball at our Junior Academy and hold weekly sessions at Wilnecote Leisure Centre on Tinkers Green Road.

Training sessions take place on Tuesday nights from 19:15 - 20:15 during term-time. All sessions are staffed by qualified coaches who all hold relevant DBS clearances, with a qualified first aider present.

**Due to COVID-19, the Junior Academy has had to adapt it’s membership and method of payment.**

In order to follow safety measures, we are restricted to a maximum of 30 people in our hall (including coaches). This means we have had to put a booking system in place and limit the number of memberships. By doing this, it allows anyone who joins the Junior Academy to feel safe and ensures a place at almost every session.

We have changed our payment method to be a flat-fee of £15 per month, which is non-contractual and can be cancelled if a player decides to leave the Academy. Due to the nature of the last year, with lots of stops and starts, the Committee felt this was the best option for both members and the Club as payments can be easily paused when necessary.

We are currently fully subscribed, but our intention is to review this every term and half-term to see if there are spaces available for new players. If you would like to be on our waiting list or have any questions, please contact us on juniors@tamworth-volleyball.com or via our Facebook page .

The Junior Academy’s Head Coach is Marta Ophide, and she is assisted by members and coaches from the adult club. The Academy is split into two sections.

These training sessions are geared towards introducing children to the sport in a safe, fun and friendly environment. They also take part in West Midlands-wide JUVOLLE competitions where they can meet other youngsters learning the game and take part in fun game-based competition, with the emphasis on building skills.

Improvers' training sessions are aimed at building basic skills and putting them into practice in game situations.

For those juniors who do want to play more competitively, we also aim to participate in local JUVOLLE competitions. For those juniors that really excel, they have the opportunity to try out for the representative West Midlands junior squads. In 2019, Sam Ravenscroft was part of the U15 squad who were runners-up in the inter-regional competition, and the previous year Jacob Tain and Razvan Lucaci represented the West Midlands at U17 boys' level, and were part of the team who won the entire competition.

All juniors are eligible to play for an adult squad when they, their parents and the coach feels it is appropriate, and we have many academy graduates starring in all five of our competitive adult teams.

Improvers also benefit from monthly coaching sessions delivered by the club’s head coach Bob Fordi.
