Tamworth Spartans are committed to giving young people aged 10-16 the chance to play volleyball at our Junior Academy and hold weekly sessions at Wilnecote Leisure Centre on Tinkers Green Road. Training sessions take place on Tuesday nights from 19:00 - 20:00 during term-time. All sessions are staffed by qualified coaches who all hold relevant DBS clearances, with a qualified first aider present.
The start date for 2019/20 will be Tuesday 3rd September.
We charge a season fee of £140 payable over ten months, this is discounted to £130 if paid up front at the beginning of the season. For those children who cannot commit to a whole season we charge a “pay as you play” price of £5 for the session. All young people are welcome to come along but for more details, or, if you have questions, email juniors@tamworth-volleyball.com.
The junior academy has two coaches Marta Ophide and Cindy Perkins (often assisted by members and coaches from the adult club) and is split into two sections.
Improvers' training sessions are aimed at building basic skills and putting them into practice in game situations.
For those juniors who do want to play more competitively, we also aim to participate in local JUVOLLE competitions. For those juniors that really excel, they have the opportunity to try out for the representative West Midlands junior squads. Last year, Sam Ravenscroft was part of the U15 squad who were runners-up in the inter-regional competition, and the previous year Jacob Tain and Razvan Lucaci represented the West Midlands at U17 boys' level, and were part of the team who won the entire competition.
All juniors are eligible to play for an adult squad when they, their parents and the coach feels it is appropriate, and we have many academy graduates starring in all five of our competitive adult teams.
Improvers also benefit from occasional coaching sessions delivered by the club’s head coach Bob Fordi.
These training sessions are geared towards introducing children to the sport in a safe, fun and friendly environment. They also take part in West Midlands-wide JUVOLLE competitions where they can meet other youngsters learning the game and take part in fun game-based competition, with the emphasis on building skills.
